OTHER OUTDOOR RECREATION
Fort Belvoir offers numerous locations for non-consumptive recreational activities. The Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge contains over 13 miles of trails and 2 viewing structures that can be utilized for hiking, bird watching, and photography to name a few. The Jackson Miles Abbott Wetland Refuge also contains a .5 mile loop trail that traverses around Mulligan Pond and also contains a viewing structure as well.
For those wishing to access the water by watercraft, Fort Belvoir offers several locations where watercraft (canoe, kayak, paddleboard, jon boat) can be launched. Fuel powered watercraft that can be carried into the water at launch site are authorized. Launching of watercraft from a trailer is not authorized. Motorized watercraft (fuel) on trailers can be launched at the Belvoir Marina by authorized users. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards can be rented from the Outdoor Recreation located in Tompkins Basin. A watercraft launch permit is required by those launching personal watercraft. Those renting watercraft from ODR, or store watercraft at the Fort Belvoir Marina are not required to purchase the permit.
